This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I've worked at my school on staff with the marching band for seven years and became the band director two years ago. I can genuinely say that I work with some of the kindest, most passionate kids I've ever come across. They deeply care about music and their band community.

Our school is located in the state of Minnesota's oldest suburb just south of Minneapolis, calls itself the "urban hometown".

We have the community of a small town but the diversity and opportunities of a metropolitan city. Our student body is truly diverse, and we're stronger because of it.

My Project

We're seeking these specialized drum pads that our snare students can use to practice for the marching season without having to annoy everyone around them. The typical practice pad a student has at home is much too soft and doesn't compare to the kevlar snare heads they use for the marching season. The more authentic their practice experience, the better they will play on the real thing.

Our drumline won two "best in class" awards and consistently ranked high last season.

We've been steadily building our drumline from a couple volunteer students to a dedicated, passionate group of young people. These students are driven and eager, and we're trying to give them the most authentic practice experiences possible so they're ready for another all-star season!
