My urban musicians are a group unlike any other. They are kind and caring and they constantly push themselves to get better. They work well together and they do all that they can to support each other knowing that it is in the best interest of the whole group.
They exemplify all that is needed in our world and I am fully confident in their ability to one day lead the change the world needs.
Music is their means of expression but their true passion is creating something that is entirely new every time they play.
My Project
The percussion equipment I am requesting for this project will be used by and benefit all of my percussionists. The primary purpose of the project, however, is to have better supplies to provide my MD (multiple disabilities) students. Last year our school added an MD unit to our building. This year another unit, or class, was added in addition to the first. This is my second year teaching MD students and I am learning what accommodations to make to better serve all of my students.
The powerful impact of music should be accessible to all students.
The materials were selected to better assist the needs of my students. The additional snare stands are very sturdy and have a lower center of gravity. This will help students to build confidence as they do not have to worry as much about the snares falling. The wood block, claves, rainstick, and maracas were selected with grip and handling in mind. The sleigh bells and tambourines are designed to be held on the side as opposed to up and down, making the grip and motion easier for students that may have limited mobility.
