My students need a couple of new snare drums and crash cymbals for use in class and events. Our equipment is mostly borrowed and in fair-poor condition.
Music changed my life and it changes my students every day. Being a charter school, we do not receive the same equipment allocations as other public schools and our students use everything we have with energy, gratitude and smiles. Our students are hard-working, dedicated kids who want to learn and improve in everything.
My students take initiative to repair instruments and keep them safe so they have them to use. We do without many pieces of percussion equipment and our students never complain.
Our students use music to reach out to our community whenever we can. These students work hard in class and out in sectionals, auditioning for honor bands, playing solos and ensembles, talking to other students about opportunities in music, and serving our school.
Our students are high achieving because of their dedication and hard work. They are engaged in learning about music and more than 80% go on to participate in music in high school and in community groups.
My Project
Our percussion students are in dire need of quality equipment to play and learn in class and through sectionals and some individual instruction. We have been slowly raising funds to add to our percussion section, but it has been challenging. My students need a couple of new snare drums and crash cymbals for use in class and events.
Having a full percussion section will allow our students to become well-rounded percussionists. We will be able to allow more students to participate in percussion with more equipment for students to use. We will be able to enhance our summer percussion camp for middle school students in the school district. Our percussion ensemble will be able to play concerts in our community at the VA hospital, children's hospital and local assisted living facilities.
Our students will be better prepared for high school music programs because they have played on and learned correct technique for more than just a few percussion instruments. Not only will this benefit them through middle school, but will make their high school experience better as well.
This donation will effect our students long after they have left our music program.
By having a positive experience in middle school, these students will go on to be the next generation of music makers, music producers, music appreciators, music educators and music donors.
There is no limit to what our students can do when they have good quality resources on which to learn.
