My students need to be able to evaluate their playing before competitions with a good quality video audio recorder because cassette recordings are just not cutting it.
For years my class has used recording equipment that I could afford out of my pocket. Times are a little harder these days and moving to digital recordings from cassette recordings would help us catch up with the rest of the programs in the state.
I teach some amazing middle school band students who keep me on my toes and also keep me laughing.
They have parents who like to be involved and they are like little sponges when they come into my room. I try to expose them to all types of great music and give them the opportunity to share with me the music they listen to. I try to incorporate music they like and music they should know each year so they will have a well-rounded music education.
My Project
The digital recorder I am requesting would be extremely beneficial for my students for evaluating their playing. Depending on where you are standing when a band is performing you could hear many different things. By recording the ensemble and playing it back for them they are able to hear what I hear from the podium and make judgments about corrections that need to be made. For years I have been using an ancient cassette recorder because that's all I could personally afford and I don't get a budget. We could actually "catch up with the times" using a digital recorder. The video recorder also benefits the students by seeing how their posture and playing position looks to audience members.
I want my students to able to evaluate their playing ability as I do.
When they can hear themselves play and be able to know what needs to be adjusted to improve their playing they will be better prepared to perform for judges at various competitions and festivals. We have needed something of this nature for years and I'm hoping we will be able to get one to put it to good use for years to come!
