This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My deserving and talented students from Ward 7 of Washington, DC do not come with all the resources that they need. Ward 7 is sometimes seen as a rougher neighborhood with many of our students living in notorious housing projects.

All I see: diamonds in the rough!

These kids deserve to have the same chances and opportunities as the kids in the much wealthier suburbs of DC. My students are rich with creative bright energy. All they need is someone to believe and invest!

My Project

Our students can't afford to buy reeds for their woodwind instruments! These reeds will keep our school concert band playing all year.

Reeds are so expensive!

Each year I have students that try to play on cracked or broken reeds because they can't afford a new one. I have even had super talented students want to quit band, simply because of the embarrassment of not being able to afford them. On an instrument like clarinet, its a continual cost.

This project will allow me to supplement and shoulder the cost of buying reeds. My students are very appreciative and tell me so!
