My students need some basic supplies for the upcoming school year. Band-aids, paper towels, and tissue paper may not be asked by many teachers, but it allows for me to provide something extra to my students.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a neighborhood where the per capita household income is less than $15K and only 8% of the community has a Bachelors degree. We face challenges where the community has an over 40% dropout rate but our school population is 92% on track to graduate high school. We support the social and emotional needs of our learners through nationally recognized programs. We make the most of what we have and try to ask for what we need. We also support the community and provide a hub for local learning.
My Project
Throughout my career I have always had a place for hygiene maintenance for my kids. It keeps them in the classroom and ready for learning, it also provides a foundation of caring in the classroom. Many of my students need that extra bit of care from adults around them, and I am a teacher that tries to provide that.
With these materials we will have a classroom stocked for emergency situations, as well as the everyday clean up.
I am already a resource that is known for having first-aid and cold packs. I usually pay for them out of my own pocket each year.
The paper towels are used as the kids wipe themselves off when they come in from the gym. Clorox wipes are used for hands and tables when we have a flu breakout. Many kids will take extras to wipe off other dirty things they bring to school. My students use tissue like it is a form of air, I don’t complain but they are definitely adverse to boogers. Cold packs come in when they get hurt from gym or other horseplay, they are still 9th graders learning self-control. Arnica is for the bruises that make them sore, these items provide them a one stop shop they can rely upon to get to 100%. We don’t have a nurse or health station in our school, and it is Biology they go to because we take care of life.
