I am an Elementary School Technology Teacher. I see nearly 80 students a day ranging from age 3 - 12. My students would benefit with life long learning while tracking their steps and training for a walk-a-thon.
My students live in the urban city of Camden.
My school has a population of around 400 mostly Hispanic students. My students range from pre-school through grade 6. My school is very warm and caring, including administration and staff. Our students have continually scored high in test assessments. Family support is an integral part of our environment. Students are eager to learn and use technology to better themselves.
My Project
Students will use, record and analyze physical fitness for their mind and body. Students will train for a walk-a-thon. Students will use the Fitbit equipment to collect data. Once the data is collected, it will be placed in a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet will be analyzed. Students will learn exercise can be as simple as a walk.
Primary Objectives: The student creates and populates a spreadsheet with collected data. The student prints and interprets spreadsheet data.
Secondary Objectives: The student uses math skills to organize monetary data, practice listening comprehension, and organize information.
Donations made to my students will benefit their mind and body for life.
Not only are there physical health benefits of walking, there are mental health benefits, too. Students will learn and be excited to keep themselves fit. These donations to my class will benefit all 400 students and the school environment. Walkathons really are an excellent opportunity to get a community together, helping our neighborhood in more ways than one.
