Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am fortunate to teach dance to about 600 wonderful students. The children that I serve are in grades Kindergarten through 5th. My students participate in dance class once per week and are exposed to a wide variety of dance styles including ballet, modern, jazz, and tap. Exploring dance from different cultures is one of the pillars of our program. This year students have learned about African, Polynesian, and Native American dance in addition to others.
Through dance, my students develop self-confidence, communication, and problem-solving skills, and are given the freedom to explore their own curiosity and creativity.
My dancers are enthusiastic, inquisitive and love to learn. Not only are they gaining knowledge about dance technique, but my students are also forming important connections to their general classroom curriculum. Ultimately, my students develop a love and appreciation for dance and the arts that lasts a lifetime!
My Project
The after-school dance conservatories that I teach are geared toward more serious dancers who are wanting to further their technique. In order to provide my academy dancers with the best education possible, it is important that I provide them with training that aids in developing their strength, endurance and flexibility.
This equipment will help take the training of my dancers to the next level!
I have been certified in Pilates as well as a ballet training program that incorporates the use of stability balls to complement the needs of dancers. With the stability balls, I will be able to teach the exercises from that program in addition to others that will help students increase their strength, flexibility, and range of motion. The rings will be utilized in conjunction with Pilates exercises to aid dancers in their alignment and strength. This equipment will allow me to pass on knowledge that will greatly benefit my academy dancers. Teaching my students how to safely and effectively use this equipment to progress their dancing while encouraging exercise that promotes healthy living is something that I am very passionate about. Please help me provide the best dance training not only for these dancers but for my students in years to come!
