Many of the students at our school come from military families. Being from a military family comes with many different challenges to include deployed family members, moving from school to school, leaving friends, and so much more. In addition to having a transient population, many students come from economically disadvantaged (ED) or low-income families. Over 1/3 of our school's students are classified as ED. In addition, over 1/3 of my students have special needs. I have an extremely dynamic group of students.
Several of the students in my class have special needs that can be met through materials that allow them to be active and hands on.
My students want to learn, they love being active learners. My students enjoy being able to complete hands-on projects and activities.
My Project
Allowing students to have seating options within the classroom helps make for a successful classroom. Students love being able to stay active while they are busy at work.
Creating a flexible seating classroom comes with many challenges.
Where do I store my materials without a desk?!? Storage bins would help us stay organized while implementing flexible seating into our classroom.
Our first year of flexible seating has been a wonderful experience. Students have been able to stay active throughout the day. Being able to wiggle and move about has provided students with an outlet to rid themselves of excess energy. This is even more beneficial to my special needs population.
I would love to provide my students with more balance balls to create more options. In addition storage bins would allow me to completely rid my classroom of desks!
