Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
How exciting to get to use chemicals in experiments and feel like a real Scientist! My students want to learn about nutrition by reading about the nutrients in everyday foods and conduct experiments to find these nutrients. They enjoy doing experiments, but need books to follow the procedure.
They are 5th graders in a multicultural diverse,poverty stricken, public school who enjoy hands on activities but have few resources.
They lack basic experiences about life skills that the school can provide. They enjoy learning about concepts that impact their daily life and can encourage them to consider a career in Science or other fields. The are highly motivated to learn and are eager to become Science Experts!
My Project
These students are excited to learn and uninhibited when trying new skills and activities because they enjoy their learning environment! They need to have activities that promote increasing their understanding of the impact Science has on their world. They need basic activities that they can easily relate to as these hands on experiments help them to understand their daily lives and experiences. They especially need books and written materials to encourage literacy and following instructions and procedures for experiments. They enjoy written materials with pictures.
We need simple written materials to help students understand why nutritious food choices are important and how their understanding of the chemical components of their food choices is easy to understand.
The teacher manual and its activities can be reproduced for classroom experiments and the picture book sets are perfect for engaging the students about nutrition. The experiment manuals allow them a chance to follow the step by step guides for each experiment and their success as Scientists!
