Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Over 93% of our school population are Hispanic, English language learners, who receive free and reduced lunch. My students are from countries all over the world, who have brought their busy hands, strong minds, and open hearts to learn in my classroom everyday. At this time of the school year, we have run out of ink and glue (the fuel for our everyday learning). Parents are not able to contribute more supplies. Title 1 budgets do not allocate basic needs of a 21st century classroom; and their just isn't enough in my teacher salary to make this necessary purchase.
My students deserve access to necessary tools in a balanced literacy classroom, regardless of their socioeconomic status!
My Project
A document camera is an essential classroom tool that would help me create shared reading opportunities for my students daily. Being able to project books being read aloud will help my readers follow along, while also being able to see illustrations more clearly. I will be able to project any book, for any subject, and allow students to practice reading grade level text fluently. Color ink cartridges will provide the documents needed for creating interactive centers for students to practice reading foundation skills. Sorting words by sounds, matching words to pictures, creating sentences from words-- will all be possible with color ink on hand. Last but not least, my students need glue sticks to paste study guides and work samples into their interactive reading/writing journals.
