My AP students are amazing! The students come in to class ready and willing to learn. Research shows that students who take one or more AP courses and exams have higher college GPAs, earn more credit hours, and are more likely to graduate college in four years or less.
I'm super proud to be part a program that has the potential to make such a difference in students' future success!
More and more I recognize the need to meet individual learners' needs so that they can maximize their potential. This can be difficult in classes of sometimes nearly 40 students. AP students, in general, have extremely high expectations, and sometimes I have to help them understand the value of failure as a learning experience. We are working on having a growth mindset, with a focus on YET...I don't have this YET, but I will. I'm not ready YET, but I will be. We don't give up!
My Project
I have new desks this year that offer the ability for flexible seating arrangements for students. Many of my students have a difficult time sitting still through long class periods, especially at the end of the day. These stools will give those kids a different option, and hopefully lead to higher levels of participation and learning.
Students need individual needs met, and that is sometimes difficult to achieve in large classes.
One thing I can do, however, I provide flexible seating options for students with diverse needs. It's hard to sit all day - it gets really tiring. I'm reminded of this every time I attend a teacher conference. We need to offer them different options so that they can stay alert and ready for learning!
