My students need two Scout Pros, a new analytical scale, so that they will be in alignment with state and AP curriculum. My present scales are over 20 years old and and stopped working.

My Students

My classroom is an energetic learning space, students are highly engaged because the see the value and purpose of studying chemistry. "We choose to go to the moon ... and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard" John F. Kennedy

My students are mostly poor to low middle income students.

Country kids would best describe them. My school is rural, with about 500 students. We have 47% of our students on free and reduced lunch, but we graduate 98% of our students. we have almost half of those students going to some sort of post secondary education. We have a very strong science department at my school. We teach the core biology, chemistry, physics, but, we also have PLTW Biomedical, and PLTW Engineering. All these programs are filled to capacity.

My Project

My students need two Scout Pros. The analytical scales will be used in the lab by the students. This will allow them to develop much more accurate measurements when weighing chemicals. Now, we only have triple beam balances which have large amounts of error built into them. A lot of the labs we do are micro labs, that is, very small amounts of chemicals are used. this will allow the students to have much better results that with our present triple beam balances.

In today's world students with expertise in STEM is a very valuable commodity.

At my school, we are preparing our students to be productive and successful adults in the ever changing world of the future. The best chance most of these students have for success is through STEM education, and we excel at it.
