This is my 1st year teaching and I am fortunate to be teaching a wonderful group of 1st graders. My students are inquisitive, intelligent and love to read, write, and learn. I teach at an EL school that does learning expeditions and believes in hands-on activities. I try to plan as many hands-on activities as possible and incorporate movement breaks to keep students engaged. Over the first two weeks, I have noticed that a handful of my students are in need of some extra tools to help them with the wiggles and concentration. People learn differently. Some of us need sensory breaks or music to learn, while others need absolute silence to learn. I have a range of students who have different learning needs. My class is a special needs inclusion class, which provides us a unique experience to celebrate each person's uniqueness.
My Project
I request friends and community members to donate funds for wobble cushions and stability balls so my extra wiggly students can have tools to help them focus.
This will provide the students an opportunity to take their learning into their own hands to make sure they are successful.
Since the students need extra movement, they can use these tools to stay active, while working.
Also, I would like to purchase noise cancelling headphones for my students. These are another useful tool that will help the students focus when they have a hard time concentrating. They will also aid students that become apprehensive during fire drills.
Thank you for your help in providing my students with tools to help them succeed further.
