Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have officially begun my 29th year as an educator, a lover of learning. This year a major focus in my classroom is on having a growth mind set. A growth mind set allows all individuals to struggle with challenges and learn from our failures. It means to have perseverance when a difficult task is upon us.
This is definitely something my students need to help benefit them in the classroom and in the real world because they are growing up in a tough, economically depressed neighborhood.
My goal is to help support them and build resiliency to keep persevering especially when the going gets tough!
My Project
When students finish their work early, I encourage them to work on their "passion projects". These projects dig deep into the students interests and motivate them to learn and create beyond the subject area of my classroom.
Students can decide to learn about a topic, research it, and do a project over what they want to learn about.
They will spend several weeks creating a project that will be shared with the class, school, or world. Deadlines are limited and creativity is encouraged.
Some of the students have expressed interest in learning to bake and I want to help provide them with the tools to do so. The great thing about baking is it allows the students a real life application of math skills, measuring ingredients and multiplying or dividing recipes to accommodate the quantity of people you're baking for.
The storage containers will be used to hold items such as flour, sugar, and store the baked products as well.
