Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I want my students to experience an enriching and inquiry-based classroom.
I am inspired every day by the resiliency and drive present in these young individuals.
These kids want to experience engaging labs so that they can feel challenged. They understand what it means to have a "growth" mindset and meet difficult problems with tenacity and pride. Unfortunately, the school I teach at cannot always fund the types of labs that my students both long for and need.
My students are hardworking and passionate individuals. I want to try my best to give them the interactive and fulfilling education they deserve.
My Project
All students should be given the opportunity to explore extracurricular hobbies, passions, and activities in a safe and inclusive environment. Because I teach in a low income area, my students do not have access to the same types of after school activities that students in a more affluent area might have access to.
This year, some of my students have taken it upon themselves to create the extracurricular safe spaces and opportunities they so clearly deserve.
The "Baking Buddies" club is the result of a few of my students who have come together to decompress on campus while being productive and learning about a life skill. Unfortunately, the school does not have money to help fund this endeavor. We therefore have to purchase all baking supplies and ingredients on our own...INCLUDING a fully functioning oven. We are currently doing our best to participate in fundraisers, but our options are limited as we are legally unable to perform bake sales on campus. We are further restricted by the fact that we do not have the money to purchase ingredients to host a bake sale to begin with. Please help jump start our club by helping us purchase our very own toaster ovens! Our club is modest so we are only asking for two toasters.
I know I am not asking for the conventional "science class lab supplies" that are usually requested on this site, but I genuinely feel that encouraging students to explore extracurricular passions and interest is wildly important to their academic success.
