Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

One word to describe my students: Enthusiastic! My students come from diverse backgrounds and love to share their ethnic heritage thru food. In our culinary classes we explore several global and regional cuisines. My students explore all aspects of Culinary with a strong emphasis on Safety and Sanitation. My students constantly are surprised when they discover what they are capable of in our Culinary classes. I love to see the surprise and delight and their confidence grow with each cooking challenge.

My Project

Baking in our classroom is the most popular cooking lab. There is something very zen about my students when they begin to bake. Their focus is unparalleled, their joy is apparent, and the anticipation and excitement of the finished product resonates thru the cooking lab.

Students that are sometimes shy begin to come out of their shell finding comfort in the measuring, rolling, and mixing of ingredients.

Success in our baking lab is not defined by perfectly shaped cookies or the smoothest buttercream but by students getting out of their comfort zone while getting to lick the bowl. I want my students to build on that happpiness and confidence and know that they can always bake to celebrate their success in ALL things.
