Can you remember back to the time when you were excited to learn something new and exciting each and every day at school? My preschool Head Start classroom, consisting of 3 to 5 year old learners, is always busy with new and engaging activities!
Early learning sets the foundation for future academic success.
I strive to have new and exciting activities for the students to engage in each day. At this stage, they are learning to be more independent and self-managed.
My Project
Recent research has shown that children who are socially competent are more likely to be successful later in life. The skills associated with social-emotional learning are both ‘fundamental for life effectiveness’ and ‘a framework for school improvement.’ Now more than ever we need to help prepare children to learn non-violent problem solving and self-regulation skills. Many of the children who enter our classroom come with a hefty amount of trauma in their short lives. We hope to provide a safe space that is tailored to meet them where they are emotionally and help them take the steps to learn to self-regulate. This project is aimed at supporting children in gaining these valuable social-emotional skills, while setting their environment up for success.
