My Project

I have approximately 120 students on my class roster. The students are engaged and motivated to learn. My baking and pastry classes are made up of mostly 11th and 12th graders. These upperclassmen are exploring the possibility of going into the culinary industry. Some have aspirations of becoming a chocolatier, chef, or baker, while others are interested in food marketing, food photography, as well as food science and nutrition.

The goal for this project is to enhance my student hands on skill, by providing them with tools to work with.

My baking and pastry students learn about the fundamentals of baking. They learn both theoretical and hands-on skills. Having the proper tools for the job is imperative. To make my student industry ready, they need to be able to identify and properly use these tools of the trade. Students in the baking classes learn the most accurate way to measure ingredients in a baked good is through using a baking scale. Not only are they learning to bake, they are also learning the art of cake decorating. The offset spatulas will be used for frosting cakes, and the pastry bags will allow them to practice decorating techniques. In this class there is a unit on learning techniques for preparing frozen desserts. We can not do this unit justice without the use of ice cream makers. Getting the ice cream attachments for the kitchen aide's will allow students to experiment with sorbets, frozen yogurt, gelato, and ice creams.
