My students need copies of the original "A Christmas Carol" novel so that we can delve into the world of Victorian England and make historical connections while enjoying a Christmas classic.

My Students
Unique, creative, hard working: these are three words I would use to describe my 7th grade ELA students. In our school, ELA is a blocked class which means I get to teach three classes a day for 84 minutes each.
In 7th grade, I teach a variety of reading and writing skills that help my students grow and develop in literacy.
Although they may not all love reading and writing, I try my best to make each day fun and engaging to hopefully inspire and encourage my kids to enjoy the subject more!
My Project
Currently, my students read an abridged version of the original novel, "A Christmas Carol." It would be so great for them to read the longer text to get a better sense of the characters, time period, and Charles Dickens' plea for change.
We will make historical connections to the Victorian Era, analyze the characters and their roles in the story, and compare the text to the Disney animation adaptation.
Our goal will be to enjoy a Christmas classic as we develop an understanding of why Dickens wrote this novel and how it's iconic characters are seen today. The novels will help us to build comprehension and utilize the close reading strategies.
