Hello there! I have 18 enthusiastic 4 and 5 years old in my kindergarten class. This is their first time attending school for most of them. My students are living in the housing projects next to the school or within few blocks from the school. Some of my student's parents work in other states and are being raised by their grandparents. All of them qualified for free breakfast and lunch. I love it that my students are coming from a diverse social and academic background!
My Project
Next month is the start of another exciting kindergarten school year! I am requesting three different materials to help my students keep organized in the class. First, I am requesting the fabric bag of books. Students will be putting independent reading books in these bags to help them carry books to practice their reading in class, at afterschool and at home. Since this bag is going to be used daily, the fabric material will help it to hopefully last the entire school year. The plastic bag will be used to keep copies of shared reading materials of different readings we did in the class. Having these two bags will help them to know which bag to take out to practice. Students will need chair pockets to hold their two different bag of books. Since the chair pocket will be right on the chair, students will have easy access to retrieve these materials and can start on practicing their reading immediately.
These simple tools will help my students to make transitions much easier and smoother in the class.
