Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach wonderful, hardworking 3rd graders in a low income, high-need community in California.

My students are working hard to learn the basic skills that they need to be successful in school, but one of challenges we face on a daily basis is they have to search through their desks to find a notebook or dictionary. Even if they clean their desks often it is hard to find items they need to use or reference quickly. Taking the time to search for the right book takes away from instructional time that we have so little of. The students tried storing things on their desks, but this created more clutter.

I thought that seat sacks would be a great place for them to keep things like their personal dictionaries, math flashcards, free reading books. They will spend less time looking for these types of things and more time using them. These will not only help the students I have this year, but also students in years to come.

You can help one class of third grade students organize themselves and maximize their instructional time by helping us keep our frequently used materials close at hand.
