My students need stop watches, pencils, pouches, and drawstring backpacks to organize and carry their measurement tools for our upcoming field trip to Six Flags.
The student body at my school is racially diverse, with over 40 countries of origin represented. Most of the parents at our school are very involved and push their children to succeed. However, we have a very high percentage of students who free or reduced price lunch. Our school offers many AP courses and has a reputation as being a challenging school.
Physics courses are challenging and students are much more successful when they have hands-on experiences.
This is my first year at this school and I am working to get the supplies to lead students to success.
My Project
My AP physics students from the Science Academy have a field trip scheduled to Six Flags Great Adventures in a few months. On this trip, students will take a variety of measurements to study the motion of the rides using the topics we have been studying in class all year. We have already procured the majority of the measurement tools needed to take data on the trip, but I would like to round the kits out with other needed tools and package them in numbered bags to be assigned to the groups of students.
We need one bag per group and a permanent marker to label the bags.
Each bag will also need a stop watch and a pencil in a pencil pouch (so the pencil does not poke through the bag or destroy any of the measurement tools). These supplies would allow me to make reusable kits to take future classes on the same trip without needing new supplies.
