Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged group of 9th through 12th graders in a high needs district. The students are participants in the after school theatre program and/or students in our Introduction to Theatre class.
These students give tirelessly of themselves for countless hours in and after school to create student-led theatrical productions.
The students handle almost all aspects of the theatre program, including serving as designers, stage managers, carpenters and technicians. They are fully committed to making the most of their limited resources so that the productions are as high quality as possible.
My Project
These storage items will allow us to organize our backstage area so our productions can run more smoothly. These items will help with storage of the props, costumes, electronics, and art supplies that fill up the backstage and are vital to our program.
A clean and tidy backstage area means that students can spend more time creating and less time searching.
A collapsible costume rack will make hanging and maintaining costumes much easier. The storage bins will be able to hold fabric and costumes between shows. The storage shelves will allow us to organize our props and tools. As our auditorium is a shared space with both other departments in the school and outside groups, and since backstage is our only storage area, it is critical we keep a well organized space. These storage items will make that possible.
