This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school on the south-side of Chicago. My students are special because despite their personal circumstances at home, they come to school eager to learn new things.
Since the first day of school, we have reiterated the importance of our classroom community, and they are definitely 'their brother’s/sister’s keeper".
They constantly try to help one another. Being that most of my students are from low-income homes, it does not stop them from trying to share the little that they have.
My Project
Working in a school in the heart of Englewood Chicago means that a lot of my students come from homes in need. Parents do what they can to ensure their child has what they need, but sometimes they still come up short. I am creating this project to help my students who tend to start the school year without a lot of the tools they need. The backpacks in this project will be filled with notebooks, pencils, and other school supplies and then given to the students who need them. This will help ensure students have a way to transport their school materials back and forth between school and home.
