Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are some of the most resilient, energetic, and inspiring young people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Many of them come from single-parent homes, most qualify for free and reduced-price lunch at our Title I school, and a large number of them have had to endure homelessness. They are also leaders and role models for younger siblings whom they help take care of while their parents are at work.
In spite of everything they have had to go through, including Hurricane Irma and Maria last year, my students still find a way to show up to class smiling every single day.
They are excited about their future and all of the possibility that awaits them. While they are aware it will take a lot of work and dedication to get there, I have never met a more capable group of young people.
My Project
Our Lady Spartan Basketball team have been district champions for the past two years, and they need support in making this upcoming season another success.
These young women are some of the hardest working student-athletes and require spacious and reliable backpacks that will help them to carry their basketball equipment to practice and games.
The start of a new school year ignites much excitement in the hearts and minds of our students as they return to the familiar hallways of our school. Our student-athletes experience another layer of excitement, a return to their favorite sport. For our Lady Spartans, basketball represents so much more than just a hobby. They take pride in the sweat, effort, and passion they pour into their sport. They cultivate unity and teamwork amongst one another as they strive to be just as strong in the classroom as they are on the court. For many of them, basketball is what motivates them day in and day out.
Our district-champion young women's basketball team needs assistance starting this year off strong. They need backpacks to store their uniforms, practice outfits, basketball sneakers, basketball gear, socks, and more. Most of the girls are unable to go home after school on a game day and therefore have to bring all of their equipment with them to school and carry it around the entire day. Supplying our student-athletes with backpacks can help to make this daily task less tedious.
Having a spacious and reliable athletic backpack that is built for basketball will help our Lady Spartans to be prepared for their season and be equipped for victory.
