This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are motivated 6th graders with various disabilities learning about mathematics, sciences, reading and writing. They enjoy coming to school to learn and interact with their classmates. Our school is considered to be a school of need according to the number of students that qualify financially for free lunch programs. A large majority of parents are not able to financially supply the students with all of the needed school supplies. I currently have a student who would benefit by having a rolling backpack.
My Project
The donations to this project will help my students have backpacks to carry their books and school supplies to and from school. The backpacks that the students have do not last a full school year. By December, the backpacks are broken! On a daily basis I see students carrying books, folders, and school supplies in their hands, and drop the items several times before reaching their destination. During changing of classes and bus dismissal is where it happens the most.
My students will feel proud and appreciative when they are able to use their new backpack to carry their work around school and to home.
My students do not have nice or new backpacks and will be excited to get one of these backpacks. I believe my students will be more likely to keep their homework and school work organized because of these backpacks. I also recently got them new binders. With new binders and new backpacks they will have the tools they need to succeed!
