Backpack to Success

Help me give my students and junior varsity players the ability to carry volleyball related essentials to practices, games, and tournaments. Our junior varsity volleyball team has not received new backpacks since the program began in 2001.

My Students

I took over a volleyball program that had never won more than 8 games...EVER! This program has been instated at our high school for 19 years. My first season as coach, we surpassed that and set a new win record of 15 wins and the first EVER birth into the regional tournament. We had the first EVER student-athlete commit to play collegiate volleyball and the first EVER student-athlete to receive All-Area accolades. Both seasons that I have coached, we have had double-digit wins.

How did this happen?

Our girls worked hard all summer and fall to accomplish their goals. The excitement of building a program that our community would be proud of lingered throughout the season. We worked and played as a family. Living in rural eastern Kentucky, a small community came together and bought into the program that I was trying to build and will continue to build. We hope to continue a winning tradition.

My Project

Our volleyball program began in 2001. That is the first and only time the junior varsity team has been issued backpacks to carry their items. These backpacks are no longer usable due to the excessive use and continued wear throughout each season. I have been the volleyball coach for two years and last season I chose not to hand out backpacks to the junior varsity and varsity teams with the intention of getting new ones that are all the same style.

Our budget just doesn't have the necessary funding to give players a nice sustainable backpack that allows players to carry necessary equipment from practices to games and tournaments.
