Help me give my students basic school supplies to help them be successful in our classroom!!!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Nestled in the heart of Memphis, my students are some of the most inquisitive, curious, and creative 6-8-year-olds you will ever meet. My students work very hard and like to have fun!
I teach at a Title I school where 85% of my students receive breakfast and lunch as part of the free and reduced-price meal program.
Although many of them face adverse experiences in their home lives, my students come to school each day with energy and excitement for learning and for each other. They love solving problems, creating new games, and designing experiments to test their questions about the world. My classroom is purposefully structured to meet the unique academic, social-emotional, and developmental needs of each child on an individual level. Students are constantly engaged in various modes of learning and making meaning of their world.
School supplies have a positive impact on students’ ability to learn in the classroom. Many of my families cannot afford school supplies for their children. Parents worry if their child will have socks and shoes, not pencils and crayons. I want all of my students to have the necessary supplies to grow and succeed in the classroom.
A lack of school supplies plays an important role in a child's development socially, physically, and mentally.
Studies have proven that when students have their own school supplies, their grades and classroom behavior improve and they become more excited about school and learning. The students do not have basic school supplies now into the school year to complete classroom work and test. I provide a lot of the supplies needed. I want to have supplies ready for them and we can get to work with no problems. They are excited to have new supplies and have them available when they walk into the class.
