My Students

I work in rural southern Illinois. My students are faced with many challenges inside and outside of school that can cause toxic stress.

My goal is to create a trauma sensitive classroom that supports students and is a calming environment for those students experiencing stress.

Middle school can be an awkward time and anything that can make things more enjoyable and comfortable for students is well worth the time and effort. I want my classroom to be a safe haven within the school building.

My Project

Students don’t always come to school with all of the things they need in order to be successful. Even when they do, those things run out quickly and don’t always get replaced in a timely manner.

My students are always in need of pencils, folders, binders, and other accessories to make sure they are staying organized and have all the materials together for their classes.

I try to keep things on hand for students to grab so that students can spend less time worrying about having materials and more time focusing on the more important things such as learning math, science, reading, language arts, and social studies.
