This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a teacher at a Title I School where a majority of my students are low-income. These students often come from disadvantaged home lives, and school is a key component in helping to break that cycle. My students are extremely hardworking and loving! They come to school every day ready to learn, even when there are not many people in their corner.
Our school serves the south side of town, which was tremendously affected by Hurricane Katrina.
Many of our students move around often and do not have a stable home life.
My Project
Working at a high poverty school, my students often are not prepared for class. I try my best to provide my students with all they need but often we come up short because I personally am on a tight budget!
In this project, I have requested many of the basic things needed for a classroom to run more smoothly, such as pencil colors, binders, highlighters, chart markers, white-out, and several other things.
Having all of these supplies in my classroom would allow for my students to focus on their school work instead of worrying about their binder being broken or them not having a pencil to actually do the work. Pencil colors and glue come and go so quickly in a 4th-grade classroom so this will provide our class with the extras we need and will alleviate some of the financial burdens when my classroom is in need of more of these basic supplies.
