Being a teacher in a high-poverty area means my students face challenges inside the classroom and outside of the classroom. They lack basic supplies for learning in the classroom. As their teacher, I try my hardest to give them the tools to strive in the classroom.
My students are creative, innovative, and will make a difference.
My first graders love to try new things but often aren't given the opportunity. Most students are being raised in single parent homes or with other family members. They also are all offered free breakfast and lunch at school to be sure they are provided with nutrients to fuel their brains during the school day. They might not have everything some other students do in other areas of the country, but they will change the world just as fast.
My Project
Now that we are almost at the end of the school year, we have completely run out of all the basic supplies we need. I currently have one pencil left for each student, my crayon supplies are broken and dwindling fast, and almost all of my students homework folders are damaged. I funded a complete resupply of all supplies in December, but we are using up our final supplies quickly. To insure we have an enjoyable and fun end of the year, we need some fresh supplies! This would mean so much to me and really helps my students learn to take care of their belongings.
