My students need the dry erase double sided lapboards and markers to show me in real time that they understand concepts I am teaching in Geometry and web design.
My students attend one of the most diversified and highly ranked academic high schools in a major metropolitan area of Jersey City, New Jersey. In fact, several organizations ranked McNair Academic High School as the Number 1 high school in the state of New Jersey. My students represent the very best of Jersey City schools and many come from socio-economically challenged backgrounds and neighborhoods. Despite the many adversities faced by our students, they thrive in our rigorous academic setting at McNair Academic High School.
Even though we are highly ranked in the state of NJ, we do not receive adequate funding from municipal or state governments for the classroom supplies and technology needed to stimulate their mathematical minds.
My current students are enrolled in Honors Geometry and Web Design; subjects that are challenging and necessary for success in STEM careers. My students are always ready for the challenge and have met all the rigorous common core/PARCC guidelines. It is my hope that with your help and some necessary basic school supplies, it will further enable my students to understand challenging Geometric and Computer/STEM concepts.
My Project
My secondary mathematics classroom needs basic supplies so I can teach and illustrate Geometric, computer, and mathematical concepts on the whiteboard. I do not have a working Smart board or a chalkboard, so the classroom whiteboard is my main way to teach/demonstrate mathematical and technological concepts to my students.
I want my math and web design classes to be fun and engaging for all of my students.
Dry erase lap boards and markers are a very fun way to engage students in their own learning. Also, the individual dry erase lap boards will enable ALL students to participate in the lesson and provide me immediate feedback as to their understanding of mathematical concepts in real time. Additionally, students love to go up to the front whiteboard to explain/demonstrate their reasoning and problem solving strategies to their classmates, so having a variety of black and color dry erase markers will help my students illustrate their strategies and have a voice in my classroom. Without these basic supplies, it will be difficult for me to engage, support, and challenge my students to become the best math students they can be.
