The tools we use to teach students are constantly changing, but the essential supplies remain the same. On a daily basis, my students use basic supplies such as colored pencils, scissors, Post-it notes, and Elmer's glue.... and these supplies are in constant need of replenishing!
Like many children across the country, my students come from a community that has been hit hard by many economic and environmental issues.
The majority of our students live well below the national poverty level. Many of our families earn their living from the Gulf of Mexico, which has been slowly bouncing back from numerous unfortunate circumstances....and while we do see the recovery, many of our families and students still have a difficult time buying the basic essentials needed to make the most of their elementary school years!
My Project
I am requesting several different items that we use on a daily basis: Elmer's Liquid Glue, Glue Sticks, Fiskars Scissors, Crayola Colored Pencils, Pens, Cap Erasers, and Post-it-Notes. These are our most basic supplies, and while they are not very expensive items by themselves, keeping all of them adequately replenished for an entire classroom of children is! I am also requesting basic good hygiene supplies: Liquid Hand Soap, Kleenex, and Clorox Wipes..... We need these because cold and flu season is just around the corner and we have to keep our students healthy and in school in order for them to be successful....
Having adequate and appropriate supplies for my students is part of the teaching/learning process.
My students need the right academic tools and adequate hygiene supplies. I need to have those supplies readily available for my students when their families can't provide them. It can be an expensive task and it takes all of us working together to make it happen! Your help is so greatly appreciated!
