My students are the best first-graders around! Our school is filled with the most creative, positive, and innovative children I have ever witnessed. We are a Kindergarten through 5th-grade school, with just over 600 students in all. There is a large mixture of ethnicity, economic, religious, and social diversity. Our school also has 85% eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.
For several of these children, our school is the safest place for them.
Even throughout their life struggles, my students are still eager to learn and never give up. One of the amazing things about first graders is their passion for school and learning throughout the entire school year. My favorite thing about first grade is watching how much my students can develop throughout the school year.
Each year, I prepare a project with our essential back to school supplies. This year, we have switched classrooms and are needing several supplies to get back on our normal routine track. The essential oils and oil diffuser is something that has become a classroom norm. When learners are getting sick, very excited, or even sleepy, we use the diffuser to meet their needs. I always obtain parent permission before utilizing this system and luckily have never had anything except positive feedback.
Having photographs of the learners displayed throughout the classroom and hallway makes our classroom culture inviting and positive.
By using the supplies of ink, paper, and labels, we will be able to continually print throughout the school year. The storage cart will be a wonderful addition to help guide students to essential items. This will be my eighth year teaching first-grade and I wouldn't change it for the world. However, I don't think I would be as successful of an educator without the support and financial support for DonorsChoose.org and the amazing donors who consistently return to my classroom.
