My Students
My middle school students come from a rural area in South Dakota. We live in a small close-knit farming and ranching community. We have a very small science department, and many students have had limited science exposure when they come to my classroom.
I have diverse learning needs throughout my classroom, but all of my students are eager, enthusiastic, and innovative despite our low socioeconomic and Title I status. They enjoy collaborative, hands-on projects and working together to accomplish a goal.
My Project
My students love to create Interactive Science & Social Studies Notebooks to keep all their projects in one place all year. We tape projects in and take notes inside. Students love to decorate and individualize their notebooks with Washi tape.
Students are proud of these self-created notebooks where they can refer back to all they've learned, to help them through homework, quizzes, and assignments for the whole year.
Students also love hands-on activities in science and social studies. The diapers (comparing polymers in 2 different sizes), Mentos(geyser tubes), and other supplies will allow students to do experiments/STEM activities at school or at home!
