Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you recall how exciting the first day of school was? Do you remember coming into a new classroom and eagerly looking at the new supplies in your desk?
My class is part of a school made up of approximately 560 students.
Of these 560 students, about 220 of them qualify for free or reduced lunch based on their family income. The kids in my class come from diverse backgrounds, but what really makes them special is that no matter what their background might be they are always eager to learn! I want to give them every opportunity possible to come to class each day and have the necessary supplies to feel successful in the classroom.
My Project
With the addition of these supplies the students in my classroom will begin the school year with all the supplies necessary! I believe that students learn best when the activities they are completing are exciting and fun. Many of the spelling activities we do require colored pencils, markers and highlighters. Students love using a variety of materials and I love that they are excited to learn. The seat sacks will also be a great addition to our classroom. The students will no longer have to dig through their crowded desks to find their journals and workbooks, they will instead be able to store these items in the seat sacks.
You have the opportunity to provide an entire classroom of first graders with supplies that will help them to be more organized and ready to learn.
To you and I these items may seem quite basic but to first graders these are the tools that make learning more exciting!
