Ms. Bright from Washington DC is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need school supplies- notebooks, post-its, dry-erase markers, and a stapler- to start the year off right!

Did you love the feeling of cracking open a new notebook on the first day of school? Do you love the vibrant color of a fresh dry erase marker? Help me give my students those first day of school feelings by providing them with brand new school supplies.
My students are a fantastic, energetic bunch who work tirelessly each day to soak up all the knowledge they can.
All of my kids are enrolled in Special Education, but they spend their days in general education classrooms for all subjects. The students have a range of academic needs, with many performing 2 or more grade levels behind. My students struggle to cope with basic school supply mishaps-- a staple falling out of a packet, a missing notebook, a torn sheet of scratch paper. And while my students are constantly learning coping strategies to help them overcome these stressors, an arsenal of supplies ensures that these mishaps don't distract from learning. Additionally, many of my students come from families that struggle to make ends meet. Their families rely on the school and teachers to provide necessary school supplies throughout the year.
I am requesting basic classroom supplies to help my classroom become an effective learning environment during the first few months of school. Composition notebooks will be used as reading and math journals to give students a single location for all written responses. Dry erase markers will be used in conjunction with our class set of individual white boards, which help with student engagement in lessons. Plus, the fine-tip markers are great for elementary school-sized hands. Post-it notes are used to write notes of encouragement, keep track of behaviors, and give quick assessments during class. Finally, a heavy-duty stapler means that independent work packets, homework assignments, and paper books will be stapled together without fear of sharp edges sticking out. All of these items will result in more time being spent on learning and less time spent worrying about supplies.
My students face challenges on a daily basis and for many of them, learning is not easy.
They work to overcome their learning and behavior disabilities just to pay attention during class and participate in learning activities. Add the extra stressor of missing or broken school supplies and suddenly, learning becomes even more challenging. By providing new supplies for my students, you are helping reduce their non-academic challenges, which lets them focus on the important thing-- learning.
