Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My upcoming class will have a variety of needs and I want to provide them with all the options I can to make their 4th grade year the best it can be!
My students are eager to learn and try new things, but they have the odds stacked against them.
I have general education students and special education students, as well as students learning the English Language in my classroom. I am a fourth grade teacher in a low-income urban area in New Jersey. More than 90% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
I am privileged to be at the same school for over 20 years. Our school is in an urban area. Many of my students face daily challenges including limited support at home by parents, trauma, and poverty. Despite these challenges, the climate of my classroom is nurturing and sets high expectations for all students.
My Project
In order for my students to be successful learners, they need basic classroom supplies. Not all of my parents can afford items for the classroom so I have supplies on hand so they can start the school year off right. I try to provide as much as I can, but it gets costly.
In order for my students to fully engage in a lesson, I want them to feel prepared with classroom supplies.
My students need a pencil sharpener to help them write. The pens and highlighters will be used in our writing center. My students enjoy working in small groups and the dry erase circles will give them their own space. My classroom is extremely dark so the contact paper and pillows will brighten up our reading center. The tissues and peppermint oil will keep my students healthy and in the classroom.
