Students need supplies. They need to have a community source from which to borrow, so that every child has an equal chance to create and imagine. Help our classroom to have an art shelf full of supplies, chart paper for inspiring daily messages, and pencils and pens to tell our stories with!
My students are in an inner-city school faced with many challenges.
They come to school with an eagerness to learn, but the lack of resources consistently dampen their spirits. These kids inspire me every day, and it would make me so happy to provide them with a stocked classroom on the first day of school.
My Project
I have requested colored pencils, markers, crayons, erasers, pencils, pens, chart paper, folders, and a classroom timer. Every child deserves to walk into school and know that they will be able to learn and produce their best work because those supplies will be available. When we design self-portraits on the first day, I can't imagine how nice it would be to see the relief in some students' eyes when they realize their broken pieces of crayons get to stay hidden in their backpacks. How amazing it would be to get out the markers and not have to throw away the first five we pick up because they are old and dried up! A student's morale is visibly heightened when there are supplies available that show they are valued.
Students want to give us their all.
They WANT to please us. Now, it's our turn to please them. Help our classroom function smoothly and with pride by providing us with the most basic of supplies as we head back to school this September!
