My students need basic school supplies to start their school year off and have a successful new school year. Some of the supplies include pencils, a sharpener, markers, and paper.
Do you remember the anticipation and excitement on the first day of each school year, when you brought in all of your new school supplies, ready to face the challenges and adventures of the new school year? Many of my students do not have that opportunity to feel that. Let's give them the chance!
My students come from all different types of backgrounds and we have a very culturally diverse school.
I have over 100 bright and determined middle school students in an urban, low-income based public school. The obstacles and challenges they face in their daily lives are many, but they always give their best in my classroom. One obstacle that many of my families face is the inability to afford their child's basic school supplies, such as pencils and paper at the start of the school year. This has set many of my students up for failure before they are given a chance to succeed. This year, I am determined to change that and set all of my students up for success the moment they walk through the door.
My Project
To have a successful school year, students must start it out prepared for the challenges and adventures they will face. If my students were given the opportunity to have basic school supplies, not only would they succeed academically, but the positive effects on their self-esteem cannot be quantified. They would be able to focus on their middle school academics instead of worrying about not having basic school supplies to complete their assignments. Some of the basic supplies that I requested include pencils, markers, glue, scissors, pencil sharpener and paper. With these materials students will be able to complete daily assignments, homework and projects.
