Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year will be the first year of structured school for many of my students. I am excited to make this an amazing year that is both memorable and jump-starts their desire to be lifelong learners. My students come from an agricultural community that is predominately Spanish speaking. Much like my school's mission statement, I aim to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help my students reach their academic potential.
"The best teachers are those who show you where to look, but don't tell you what to see." --Alexandra Trenfor
My students attend a school that is more than 94% socioeconomically disadvantaged and more than 77% of the students are English Language Learners. With this in mind, I hope to create interactive lesson plans and keep my students engaged throughout the day. My goals are to provide a supporting and enticing environment so that my students may flourish.
My students come to me excited to learn, and I want to help them initiate and continue that love for learning.
My Project
Back to school season is my favorite time... because that means new supplies! There is such a great feeling with opening a new set of crayons and markers. I am requesting crayons that do not come in the traditional crayon boxes. Colors like pink and grey are not in the larger marker set. More importantly, multicultural colors that students need to draw people are not included. I did not even consider this until I had a student approach me and ask me what color she should use to draw herself. She could not find a color that matched her skin tone, and it made me realize how important it was to help her feel represented! These crayons and markers will be great to add to our class art corner!
I like to have a special area for students who are making great choices in the classroom!
Students who are being leaders and setting a great example for their peers is something I definitely want to showcase. The flair pens requested will be adding to the VIP table for special supplies to be used. They are fun and are sure to encourage students to want to be leaders in the classroom. We are also asking for some new pencils. I like to start with the thicker pencils then switch over to the no.2 pencils. Erasers get used quickly! We are making mistakes and learning from them. Extra erasers are helpful.
My school is lucky enough to offer students 1:1 device. We use these to enhance student learning and be an additional help to students. My students are five so they can't always remember to charge their devices. That is where extra chargers are a necessity.
