I teach Regents-level earth science to 9-12th grade students in a poverty level school in a large city. I also teach Credit Recovery after school. Our district is dealing with a large budget deficit, so there isn't money to purchase any more supplies.
Our Earth Science program is growing in popularity, but I don't have enough supplies to meet the demand.
The students enter my class ready and eager to learn, and I am running out of supplies!
I also teach ESL students, so having concrete objects that they can touch will help increase their understanding of both the science concepts and their English vocabulary.
Since our Earth Science program has grown in popularity, my supplies have been dwindling. With over 150 students each year, keeping my pencils stocked has been a challenge. Add to that, I have just taken on teaching Credit Recovery after school to students who need more credits to graduate.
The students use my supplies for numerous activities: completing labs, adding color/pictures to their notes to aid in their understanding and to complete projects.
Having a new supply of colored pencils and sentence strips will allow my students to continue using their creativity to fuel their learning. The magnifying glasses will help them as they make observations of different scientific phenomena as we complete various labs.
