My students are dreamers, problem solvers, and likely the most creative little people you will ever meet.
They are a happy group of first graders who love school and love to learn.
One hundred percent of our school qualifies for free breakfast and lunch; yet, they don't let hardships stand in their way. My students' economic situations are just as varied as are their family dynamics. We have military families with a local National Guard unit in our area and an Air Force base close by. We aim to take good care of our military families. Our district includes an Indian Reservation and we have a high population of Hispanic students, many of whom have family members who work in the agricultural industry.
My Project
It's important to have the basics in first grade. Paper, pencils, and notebooks are all things we use on a daily basis. We could sure use these things the second half of the school year. The children will use the notebooks as their "first grade journal." The pencils will be shared at their tables. We aren't able to ask children to bring pencils unless we have a way to only have the child that brings the pencil use it for themselves. Whoever made this rule at the state level didn't ever work with young children. There is no way to keep track of which pencil belongs to which child, so I prefer to provide them myself and make them available for all children. We are running low on card stock which is used for reading logs, art projects, learning games, and other classroom projects. The children enjoy having their own sketch pads to use for art projects. They feel and act like real artists. Thank you for considering our project for basic supplies! We are "basically" thrilled to have your support!
