My students need basic materials for our classroom in order to meet their academic needs and make learning fun. We need a pencil sharpener, pencils, erasers, glue-sticks, labels, prop money, and more.
Basic supplies form the critical foundation for my students' success in the classroom. One of the biggest challenges of teaching in a high-needs district is having enough supplies and materials to help the students succeed. Many of my students have parents with multiple jobs. At times, my students do not come to school with basic supplies that are needed because their parents do not have the time or money to provide the necessary materials. It is heartbreaking when a student continuously says that they will "come to class prepared next time." Some children even become embarrassed that they do not have the proper materials and that's when it becomes my duty as their teacher to reassure them that what they have is perfect AND provide them with the materials needed for class.
When you visit my classroom you will see a community of learners.
I strive to provide each and every child with everything they need to be life long learners. I want to help each and every student become successful in every aspect of his or her life. In order to do this, a variety of tools, techniques, ideas and activities are needed.
My Project
I am requesting basic classroom supplies, such as a pencil sharpener, pencils, erasers, glue sticks, labels, bright copy paper, prop money, and laminating pouches to help our classroom thrive. With all these supplies, my students will be sure to have the writing tools that they need to complete daily assignments and to create masterpieces that can be laminated and showcased for all to see when they visit our classroom. In addition, the prop money I am requesting will be utilized to help us create our own classroom economy with various leadership roles. Having our own classroom economy will teach students not only the value of a dollar but also how to save and budget their earnings for different incentives that can be "bought."
With these basic classroom materials, my students will start the year with essential tools to help them learn in an organized classroom.
When I am able to provide my students from low-income backgrounds with adequate supplies, their learning experience is transformed.
