This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is located in one of the most diverse zip codes in the country and my students come from many different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. My classroom is a place where students from diverse backgrounds are able to come together and share their experiences. Our school focuses on building a community of learners and supporting children to develop socially and emotionally, as well as academically.
My students love coming together as a class to read and writing creative stories.
They are eager to learn, but do not always have the materials they need to be successful. Our school cannot afford to provide supplies to all students and teachers often have to provide basic materials such as notebooks and pencils for their classes.
My Project
Many of my students come to school without the basic supplies they need to be successful. My students need basic supplies such as notebooks, pencils, and folders so everyone has the same materials. These supplies will guarantee that everyone has the notebooks and materials they need for reading and writing!
We also need communal supplies such as markers for chart paper, staplers, and tape dispensers.
They seem like such simple things, but these supplies will go a long way towards helping my class run smoothly. The chart markers get used every day to color code anchor charts, which is especially helpful for students learning English. We use these materials daily for students to have notes of our math lessons to reference.
