HELP -- it's March and we have no school supplies!
It's been six months since I started teaching 8th grade science in a semi-converted home economics room. The washing machine and dryer have yet to be moved, the sinks still spout rust-flecked water, and the counter tops continue to crumble -- but in spite of it all, my students make incredible academic progress every single day. Their tremendous growth can be attributed in large part to several generous donations that were given to us at the beginning of the year. These funds enabled us to procure an LCD projector, graduated cylinders, and an electronic balance to help enhance and enrich student learning. These resources were a welcome addition to our humble classroom.
As standardized test season approaches, my students and I are once again feeling the strain of resources. I have not had access to a copier all year, so I've been using my own printer and copier paper from home to make copies each day for my students. But as you can imagine, this practice has not been easy on my wallet. Additionally, our classroom is low on pencils and erasers, and my students have been asking for another electronic balance to cut down on their "weight" time (pun intended) for using the balance.
For the reasons described above, I am requesting some basic supplies to last me and my students until the end of the year. Having adequate supplies -- a tabletop copier, toner, paper, pencils, and erasers -- would make teaching and learning in my classroom much, MUCH easier. The addition of a second electronic balance would also make measuring masses a valuable AND time-efficient learning experience for my students.
