Our school is a racially and culturally diverse school serving over 700 students in St. Paul, MN. Many of our students receive special services:
-70% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
-Almost 30% of our students are English Language Learners.
-About 10% of students receive Special Education Services.
We are comprised of 2 separate schools with different programs: Crossroads Science and Crossroads Montessori. Students have many hands on opportunities for learning through the Inquiry Zone, hydroponics lab, iPad initiative, and outdoor gardening areas. Our students are active, inquisitive children desperately in need of resources due to multiple years of school district budget cuts.
My Project
Okay...we can all admit that rolling carts are not exciting or inspiring, but they are one of those things we really need but just don't have the money for. Why are these things so darn expensive, anyway?
We need a way to get classroom library books back to the library safely, without students having to carry heavy boxes of books up and down stairs.
Trust me, once you have seen a pair of kindergarten student struggling to carry a box of books up the stairs together you will understand exactly why this is such a necessity. This will turn a weekly chore into an enjoyable classroom job for students.
Why do we need your help? The library has a very limited budget, and rather than spend it on things like this I would much rather use the funds to expand the library collection and get books students want to read. So please, help me spend my money wisely and support our school!
