Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

As I mentioned in "Movement I", I teach High School Band and Music Appreciation in an urban high-need community in Northern New Jersey. My students love to listen to music, and I want to be able to provide a richer database of musical examples for them.

As you can imagine, keeping students on-task and teaching music in an urban environment can be a real challenge. I waste a lot of classroom time switching between compact discs and dealing with our outdated, clunky old "boom-boxes". Plus, our students love to use the latest technology, which is something our district does not have the money to purchase.

I am looking to fund 2 8GB iPod Nanos (one for myself from my first proposal, and one for the Chorus through this proposal) to use with our students. We dream of the time we can just plug our slim little iPod into our speakers and let forth with some "righteous tunes" (Wagner anyone?). Plus, we will be able to further enhance our Band and Chorus students' education by providing high quality examples of key repertoire to use in ensemble rehearsals. I am sure we will also find a myriad of other uses for our iPods. This sure would make a great step into the 21st century for us!
