My Students

I teach in a low-income, very small city surrounded by Detroit, where students' needs extend beyond learning to read. In addition to feeding hungry bellies breakfast, lunch, and snacks, we feed them love, acceptance, social skills, and positive behavior with a hands-on, student-led education! Our district is one of the poorest in the nation, and we struggle to come up with furniture and "extras."

I have the best students!

Our school is very diverse, containing mostly Bengali, African-American, Yemeni, White, Polish, and Bosnian children, many of whom do not speak English at home. They are creative, loving, and enthusiastic hard workers!

My Project

Regular recess outdoors is good for children. It's good for their development physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. We recently increased our recess time and noticed better behavior all day.

However, it's winter now with Michigan weather, and it is cold outside!

We would like to keep recess outdoors as often as possible, but our students are often underdressed for the weather, and can't stand the cold.

I am asking for scarves, hats, gloves, leg warmers, and socks so my students can stay warm during outdoor recess this Winter. I would like to distribute them as needed to students throughout the season. Please donate today!
